Information for particularly vulnerable refugees

The European Union has decided that some people are particularly vulnerable. These peope are: (unaccompanied) minors, handicapped people, people with severe physical or mental illness, pregnant women, single mothers and people over 65 years old.

Confirmation

In some cases, a doctor or Psychologist has to confirm that you are particularly vulnerable. Ask an advice office.

Special rights

You have some special rights. Sometimes you can get more money. Ask an advice office. he following people can get more money:

- Pregnant women and mothers with newborn children can apply for benefits according to the Asylum seekers' benefits act to cover their special needs. The law uses the term „Wöchnerinnen“ to describe women who have recently had or will soon have a baby.

- People with physical or mental illness can apply for ]benefits according to the Asylum seekers' benefits act to cover their special needs.

- Children under the age of 18 can apply for benefits according to the Asylum seekers' benefits act to cover their special needs.

Education and participation package (Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket)
For children under the age of 18 years (sometimes up to the age of 25) you can apply for the education and participation package (Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket) from the Sozialamt.Here you can get financial support for the school and for hobbys of your children.

Accomodation
People who are particularly vulnerable should live in a protected place. So says Baden-Württemberg's Refugee Reception Act (Flüchtlingsaufnahmegesetz). Unfortunately, many vulnerable refugees often still have to live in normal refugee accomodation.
